The art is to strengthen the system without becoming a servant to it.

Systems are something artificial. They are created by humans who try to implement structures and standards.

Employees are human beings and highly individual. They need unique opportunities to use as much of their potential as possible.

Especially in larger organizations, there is a need for standards, but individual performance is equally important.

The art is to create as much standard as possible, while too much standard will not allow for great individuals to thrive and grow in their own way.

At the same time, trying to give individual freedom to all employees will destroy any kind of structure. It will be individualism in a chaotic environment.

It is a good sign if your organization incorporates the needs of key players. And it is a bad sign if the system changes to all kinds of personal preferences.

In turn, you will miss opportunity for growth, if you do everything just for the system and never allow for exceptions. And you will have organizational stability and higher fairness, if your company follows important rules and structures.

Choose what is most important to your current situation and never hesitate to challenge your own principles.
