The space between: why we don’t have to react on our emotions

In a time of high pressure, tight schedules, and bad weather, I notice how people become more irritated. Myself included.
It’s the right time to remind myself that I don’t have to act on my emotions.
When the feeling of being overwhelmed starts to creep in, I take a deep breath and try to distance myself. I distance myself from what’s going on and from any negative emotions arising. I remind myself that not all emotions need an immediate reaction—that I have the power to pause and interrupt my thoughts and physical sensations.
Especially when I feel irritated, I seek the positive in others instead. Seeing the good and the strength in them helps to lift me up and has a positive effect on my own body and mind.
So, during the holidays, it’s a good time to remember: Stay calm, carry on, and focus on the positive energy.
Merry Christmas everyone!
