Some days ago, I first heard about the term "microscopic truth". Microscopic truth means telling the truth in a very specific situation, just in that very moment, not generalizing or referring to a bigger truth. It is about specific behavior and how it makes us feel in that very moment.

This way of looking at a situation with potential for conflict inspired me and made me think.

People tend to compare and refer to past events, leading to generalizations ... and therefore not allowing the other to evolve and grow. With a fixed mindset, the other always stays the same, and we find evidence for them repeating their previous behavior.

When staying in the present moment, without a "You have always been that way" or a "You will always remain that way", we can say what we feel right now. In this very moment.

When speaking the microscopic truth, it still needs courage to say what we truly feel. However, the hurdle is not as high for ourselves as if we had to talk about our entire history. At the same time, the other has to digest less, making it easier to accept what we want to tell them.

The next time we need or want to give feedback, we can start with the microscopic truth and observe how this situational approach changes our relationships.
